Tourist spots are set to be in turmoil this summer unless measures are taken to avoid congestion.
At this month's Plenary council meeting which was held in Dungarvan, the issue of parking congestion along the coastline was raised.
Local Sinn Féin councillor Jim Griffin noted the volume of tourists who visited Waterford over the St. Bridget's Day Bank Holiday weekend.
He is calling for increased signage along the coastline where the smaller beauty spots are located In Waterford.
Speaking at this month's Plenary council meeting, Councillor Jim Griffin says: "It only takes a few cars to block the whole area in a small village for example and this results in the area in turmoil."
Additional Land
Calls have been made to seek out land in the vicinity of costal areas that would see high volumes of visitors, especially in busy summer periods.
Councillor Griffin has requested that the council avail of the land to avoid congestion. Councillor Griffin added:"We could look at perhaps leasing a small piece of land that would probably accommodate 10 or 12 cars and this would be good enough to alleviate pressure points."
However, Director of Services with the council Fergus Galvin said the council will continue to liaise with Gardaí over previous instances of obstruction in costal areas around the county.
He added: "We have done this for the last couple of years and during covid, and we have been reviewing the facilities at our beaches in terms of trying to improve the standards that we have here regarding litter picking, bin collection, and parking."
