Concerns over Tramore amenity following serious accident

An amenity in Tramore is unsafe according to a local councillor.

Councillor Joe Conway raised safety concerns around Tramore Nature Park at the most recent Metropolitan District Council meeting.

He mentioned an incident that he was made aware of, in which a man was left seriously injured, after slipping at the entrance to the park.

"Last week I encountered an 84-year-old gentleman and I said to him 'I haven't noticed you here in some time'.

"He responded 'That's because I am only starting to walk again.' He detailed to me his fall down on the slope many months ago, and the injuries that he sustained.

"He was not discovered for the best part of half an hour and his little dog lay beside him. It's not an ideal situation when the remedy is simple."

Councillor Conway continued: "The installation of a handrail is needed there. Even people with myopic vision would see the necessity of it there to protect people going up and down that slope.

"So I am just asking if we can double our efforts. It's not like we are looking for a handrail for Cape Canaveral, it's a handrail and it could save the lives of vulnerable people in Tramore."
