Concerns over structural guarantees at new Waterford housing estate allayed

A Waterford property developer has denied suggestions that no structural guarantees are being provided at a new estate.

Concerns had been raised at this month's Metropolitan meeting about the housing development at the Summerfield estate in Kilbarry.

Councillor Adam Wyse asked the council to investigate whether or not structural guarantees - which ensure a 10-year warranty for major defects to a property - would be given.

However, further clarification sought by the council after the meeting revealed this was not the case.

"Any purchaser of a property at Summerfields will receive a home bond structural guarantee," Niall Harrington of Whitebox told WLR News, "as well as all of the appropriate certification that is required as part of any closing of a sale of any property.

"That's standard across the country of Ireland."

Councillor Wyse has stated he is happy that clarification was received for home buyers that houses being built in the Elder Walk phase of Summerfield developments will have a structural guarantee in place.

"Having raised this issue at a previous council meeting, on foot of representations made to myself," he said, "I asked Waterford Council to investigate the contract situation regarding Summerfield.

"In error I omitted that it was the Elder Walk phase I was questioning specifically. I am happy to receive confirmation that Whitebox will be providing the LDA with a whole suit of guarantees including homebond 10 year guarantee for each home across their entire development."
