Plans are in place to construct a new community centre for the Newtown, Ballydurn and Kilmacthomas areas.

Chairman of Newtown / Ballydurn GAA Club James Dunphy has lodged plans with Waterford City and County Council, seeking permission for a multi-purpose development on the grounds of the club.

The application, which was lodged on June 5th, seeks to construct a local community centre and sports hub.

This will include an open plan multi-purpose function room, kitchen, store, gym & viewing gallery overlooking the pitch.

Plans also include alterations to the bathroom facilities of the existing clubhouse building and construction of a communal entrance linking the existing and proposed buildings.

The applicant also seeks to reconfigure the existing car park layout while the plans also cater for the development of an over-spill car park to be accessed by a pedestrian walkway from the existing car park, and the relocation of the onsite waste treatment system.

The GAA club also seek permission for a ball wall and an all-weather AstroTurf.

A previous application put forward in January was deemed invalid.

A decision is due from the local authority on or before the 30th of July 2025.
