A Waterford councillor has expressed his frustration over the delay in developing a new shopping centre for the city.
Cha O'Neill said if the Michael Street development doesn't happen, he'll be accused of lying to constituents as he's been promising it for the past five years.
The Independent councillor said the centre should have already been developed and he queried at a recent council meeting whether it would happen independent of the North Quays development.
Responding, Economic Director for Waterford Council Lar Power said things were moving along very positively.
"We are in a planning process and that has to take place".
Lar Power said it was his understanding that the Al-Hokair group would only develop Michael Street along with the mixed use development on the North Quays, but they were committed to that, subject to getting the required planning permission.
