A Labour Councillor has called for balance from Waterford City and County Council when it comes to their heritage strategy plan.

Cllr Thomas Phelan raised the matter at the most recent meeting of Waterford City and County Council.

"It notes that we have six museums in the city. We've got the Medieval Museum, Bishop's Palace, Museum of Treasure, Sylvia Museum, King of the Vikings, Irish Wake Museum and Reginald's Tower Seven."

"Nearby the city we have Mount Congreve and coming in future we have Tír na nÓg Childhood Experience, which will celebrate children's past, present and future, so there may be an element of heritage in that."

The Dunagrvan Lismore district area Cllr then asked the Council to keep the Western part of the county in mind.

"I'm just asking for a little bit of balance or maybe that we would have a museums or heritage attraction strategy."

"At the moment it looks to be very lopsided in favour of the city and maybe to the exclusion of the county."
