Planning permission has been granted for the construction of a hotel at Custom House Quay in Waterford City.

Code The Mall Limited have been granted permission by Waterford City and County Council for the development at 97-98 Custom House Quay.

Approval has been secured to transform an existing commercial building – a former Ulster Bank branch – into a mixed-use hotel and restaurant.

The project will see the premises converted from commercial use to hotel use across the ground, first, and second floors, as well as at the existing flat roof area to the rear, and restaurant use at ground floor level.

The application was first lodged in December 2024 and permission was granted last week subject to 16 conditions.

Among those conditions are that the bedrooms permitted shall not be for long-term use or used for short-term letting and a construction management plan must also be submitted to the local authority.

The developer must also pay a contribution of €3,300 to Waterford City & County Council.
