A number of Tramore residents have voiced strong opposition to a proposed social housing development at the site of the old Stella Maris School.
An application for planning permission to develop the school building into a block of over 30 apartments was submitted by the Religious Sisters of Charity and Cluid Housing Agency last November, but was subsequently withdrawn.
It's now believed that an almost identical application is due to be submitted for the site.
A meeting on the subject was held at the Majestic Hotel last night, at which the 80 residents in attendance were told, that should the development come to pass, it would be one of the most densely concetrated social housing blocks in the country.
Justin Collery is a committee member of the Tramore Community Association, who were behind last night's meeting.
He says there is no comparable social housing scheme anywhere in Ireland.
He says that people don't object to social housing, but that the planned development at Stella Maris is flawed.

He says that that the Stella Maris school building would not be suited to that scale of development and that the site could be used as sheltered housing for the elderly
