8 to 8 cardiac care 7 days a week will begin at University Hospital Waterford in three week’s time.
That’s according to Independent Councillor Declan Barry who raised the issue at the HSE’s South East Regional Forum today.
Councillor Barry says the service is provisionally set to begin on March 18th.
Emergency cardiac care at University Hospital Waterford is currently limited in operation to weekdays, excluding bank holidays.
UHW has two cath labs which operate from 8am to 8pm and 8am to 6pm respectively.
University Hospital Waterford received approval to begin recruitment to enable the operation of the emergency cardiac service 7 days per week from 8am to 8pm in September last year but did face a backlog in relation to recruitment.
“I have it here in black and white in front of me – the date is the 18th of March, which is only a little over three weeks time”, Cllr. Barry told Deise Today. “UHW was recently funded and approved to increase the on-call STEM service to seven days, 8am to 8pm, after a successful recruitment campaign and discussions with the clinical teams for the seven day service provisionally scheduled for 18th of March 2025.”
