Failure to make public a review into cardiac care in University Hospital Waterford does not bode well for the future of care in Waterford.
That's the view of local long-term campaigner Hilary O'Neill.
Speaking on Deise Today, she reflected on the report which is believed to have been published some 6 months ago.
However, despite that and despite raising it before government, both Sinn Féin's David Cullinane TD and Independent TD Matt Shanahan have yet to get sight of it.
Speaking on this, Hilary said: "If the findings of it were positive, certain people would be first out of the traps shouting and roaring, declaring 'Oh we got this, we got that,' and they haven't, we've got nothing. Considering it is meant to be in the best interests of cardiac care services for optimum patient outcome in Waterford."
Referring to Waterford Minister of State, Mary Butler TD, Hilary voiced her belief that in her role as Junior Minister for Health, it is likely she would have seen the report.
Also contributing to the conversation on air was Waterford Independent TD Matt Shanahan, who has recently received figures on the performance of the two Cath Labs in Waterford operating at present on a five day schedule.
He told Deise Today that the figures he has seen show Waterford as good as on par with the output of the larger hospitals in the country, despite working on a reduced schedule to those hospitals.
This, he adds, is proof that 24/7 cardiac care is justified and needed in Waterford.
