Calls to utilise vacant thatched building in County Waterford

A local councillor has called for a prominent vacant building in County Waterford to be brought into use for housing.

Councillor Liam Brazil highlighted the condition of the large thatched building just off the N25 at The Pike near Dungarvan at this month's Comeragh District meeting.

Speaking to WLR News, he outlined the potential of the building which was originally due to become a hotel.

"It's a fine building which has been lying idle for 15 to 20 years," he said.

"Planning permission was given for a motel which was big news for Mid County Waterford at the time - but we all knew deep down that it was never going to happen."

He added: "If we could get residential units into the building it would be fantastic for Mid County Waterford."

Cllr Brazil also raised health and safety concerns, saying children have been saying playing on the thatched roof.
