A Waterford councillor has called on the local authority to host a special meeting on the issue of water pollution.
Green Party Councillor, Cristiona Kiely, voiced her concerns on consistent water quality problems at this month's plenary meeting of Waterford Council.
A number of boil water notices have been issued in recent months while there has also been no swimming permitted in a number of bathing areas.
Cllr. Kiely says that Waterford continues to make the headlines for the wrong reasons.
"A couple of items made the headlines over the last couple of months in relation to Waterford and water pollution was one of them.
"We made the headlines for the wrong reasons there and we made them outside of Ireland as well.
"I'm just wondering, where are we going with it? We've issues with water pollution in a number of locations throughout the county - within the metropolitan area and within the county as a whole - and I'm wondering if we can have a separate meeting on water pollution?
"It's a massive, massive issue."
Waterford County Council Senior Engineer, Gabriel Hynes from Waterford Council says they would be open to doing having a meeting on the issue.
"In relation to water pollution and the incidents you're referring to, from the point of view of streams and small streams running into bathing areas, it can be difficult at times to track that source of pollution.
"Natural catchment, you're going to get natural run-off and you will get some contamination in streams that are running into bathing areas.
"We have catchment management plans and in those plans we have proceedures and recommendations for improving water quality in the catchment and I think certainly, that's being dealt with on a regional approach.
"But certainly, we can look at a workshop."
