A Kilmacthomas woman is highlighting the potential for developing a dedicated area for campervans in the village.

Pamela O'Reilly, who is a member of the Irish Motor Caravanners Club, says there has been an increase in motorhomes arriving into the village since the Waterford Greenway opened.

She believes having a specific area, known as an 'aire' from the French term 'aire de stationnement' would bring even more visitors.

Aires vary in size and are typically operated by local authorities but private aires exist also.

For a nominal fee, users can park overnight in a secure area and avail of electricity and fresh water.

Pamela notes that many motorhomes arrive into the village each summer.

"Kilmac is at the heart of the Greenway. Lots of motorhomes come to the village to visit the Greenway and the local area," she explains.

"During the summer there are a lot of motorhomes down by the old mill."

Pamela says she has seen the benefits of 'aires' in other countries - and highlights these on a YouTube channel with her partner Johnny called 'Pamela and Johnny's Motorhome Journeys'.

They have travelled extensively throughout Ireland and Europe and have seen the economic benefits of aires to local villages.

In previous years, Pamela has brought the issue to the attention of Councillors and the proposal has been discussed at meetings of the Comeragh District of Waterford Council.
