Permission has been granted for the development of 20 independent living bungalows in Newtown in Tramore.

An Bord Pleanala upheld the decision granted by Waterford Council to allow the development to proceed, adjacent to Tramore Nursing Home.

Planning permission was granted from Waterford City & County Council on June 22nd, 2022. The decision was subsequently appealed to An Bord Pleanala, who upheld the decision last Friday, January 12th.

The application, lodged by Kilkenny Investment Property Holdings Limited, plans to develop 20 bungalows aimed at promoting independent living.

Occupancy of the homes is limited to those who are aged over 65 years, those with limited mobility due to long-term injury or chronic disease, persons with mental health issues, and/ or those with intellectual disabilities and cognitive issues.

While the development will be on lands adjacent to Tramore Nursing Home, and separated by an access gate, the two developments are entirely unconnected, with open space land to be maintained for use by the nursing home.

A submission made against the original application for planning referred to privacy and boundaries between private dwellings and the intended development.

In making their decision, An Bord Pleanala directed that the boundaries to adjoining residential areas shall consist of the existing hedgerows, with existing site boundaries reinforced where necessary.

Site works will be limited to the hours of 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 2pm on Saturday, with no works permitted on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
