A body has been recovered this afternoon in the search for a missing person in Dungarvan.
Gardai and members of the Coastguard confirmed to WLR that the body was recovered from the water at 2.35pm.
A search continued this morning for a man who went into the water at Davitt's Quay in Dungarvan last night. The coastguard was alerted to the incident by Gardaí at 11.20pm.
Rescue helicopter 117 and Helvick Head RNLI were tasked to the scene after reports that a man had gone into the river at the Devonshire Bridge linking Dungarvan and Abbeyside.
It was understood that a second person went into the river in an attempt to help the first man. That person was rescued from the river with Dungarvan Fire Brigade and Gardai in attendance.
An extensive search of the area was stood down at 4am this morning, but resumed this afternoon with Helvick Head RNLI partaking in the search as well as teams from Bonmahon and Ardmore.
