The body of a man was recovered from the sea yesterday (Thursday) by a French trawler southeast of Mine Head on the Waterford coast.

Fishermen found the body in their nets at around 9am.

They alerted the authorities who directed them to Ballycotton  where the body was brought ashore and given into the custody of Gardaí.

The body has since been taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is to be carried out and DNA samples taken in a bid to identify the deceased.
