The word ‘blaa’, Waterford’s favourite soft bread roll, has been added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

The OED said possible origins of the word blaa could be the French words ‘blanc’, meaning white and ‘blé’, meaning wheat.

‘Spice bag’, ‘ludraman’ and ‘class’ are among the Irish English words that have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) in its latest update.

In 2013, the blaa was awarded special European Union status.
