At Ballyvadden, a major upgrade to the drinking water network in County Waterford has been completed.
More than 7 and a half kilometres of new water mains have been constructed as part of the works.
The existing drinking water network between Dunhill and Ballyvadden was found to be insufficient for the demands of the developing areas of Ballylaneen, Bunmahon, Kill, and Annestown.
Therefore a significant project was undertaken by Uisce Eireann to upgrade the ageing infrastructure with a new 7.6km water main.
This has now been completed and links Dunhill to the Ballyvadden Reservoir.
Ballyvadden Water Supply Challenges
Numerous issues had arisen in relation to supply and quality at the Ballyvadden Water Treatment Plant in recent years.
Following these, various Boil Water Notices and Do Not Consume notices had been issued to households served by the plant.
In conjunction with these works, a new booster pump was installed in Dunhill with a view to meeting both current and projected future demand on the supply.
The works form part of Uisce Eireann’s wider national programme of strategic water supply rationalisation aimed at overcoming challenges in regional areas.
