Conditional planning permission has been granted for the development of holiday accommodation at the former Ballyduff Upper Garda Station.
Arkle ULC submitted an application to Waterford City and County Council in November, seeking to change the building into holiday accommodation or a hotel.
The building will now become a six bedroom short-stay facility.
The former Garda Station is a protected structure situated on an elevated half-acre site overlooking the River Blackwater.
The building served as an RIC barracks until 1921.
After a fire, it was rebuilt in 1926 and was used as a Garda Station until its closure in January, 2013.
It was sold last year for over 250 thousand euro.
As part of the proposed new development, a single storey extension will also provide for occasional community use and event space.
This extension is to be connected to the existing main building via a glazed link.
Among the twelve conditions attached to the planning permission is a specification that all works carried out to the protected structure are in line with best conservation practices.
