Ballybricken - The Hill @Halloween
The Hill @ Halloween is an alternative cultural happening being created by artists, arts technicians and schools associated with the Ballybricken area. The happening will be performed at the area’s bandstand on October 31st, 8.00 p.m.
Artists and contributors to this novel multi-media creation include: Barrack Street Concert Band, City of Waterford Brass, Jack Cunningham, Every Event, Mercy Secondary School Transition Year, Mount Sion Secondary School Transition Year, Lorcan Reidy, Damian Tubbritt, Spraoi and others.
The event celebrates Ballybricken’s creativity and offers audiences an alternative and safe Halloween experience. The Hill @ Halloween is presented with support, funding and motivation from Waterford’s Local Community Safety Partnership, Creative Waterford and Creative Ireland and technology partners Zinnia.
“Our committee is very invested in empowering all sorts of dialogue with and from communities. We have listened to the local community in relation to safety challenges in the area and this creative initiative ensures a collaborative, community led, event. The Hill @ Halloween is people from this area expressing themselves through the arts, and creating an alternative Halloween gathering in the process,” said Sean Aylward, Chairman of Waterford Local Community Safety Partnership.
Creative Waterford spokesperson Nicola Spendlove added, “The Hill @ Halloween is a example of collective creative action by a local community. This happening will involve elements of dance, music, lighting, design, composition and other arts skills.”
“Zinnia has close ties with Waterford Spraoi over many years. Zinnia and Spraoi are involved in different fields, but we share an ethos for human connectivity and building communities. The Hill @ Halloween unites these values, it empowers Ballybricken based talents to express themselves creatively,” said Helena Walsh of Zinnia.
WLR FM is the project’s official broadcast partner. It will carry regular The Hill @ Halloween updates on the station’s programmes, news bulletins and social media platforms.
