Transport Infrastructure Ireland say they were not consulted with regards to a 'dangerous' school bus stop currently operating at Kiely's Cross in Ardmore.
Parents in Ardmore are still yet to find a solution to the lack of a designated public school bus service to Dungarvan.
A second protest took place on Saturday 31st August with over 200 in attendance including Sinn Féin TD, David Cullinane and Fianna Fáil Councillor, Tom Cronin.
The first protest took place Saturday, August 24th with approximately 100 people in attendance.
The parents wish to be provided with options for where their children attend school.
In correspondence with Waterford Green Party TD Marc O'Cathasaigh, TII outlined their position on the matter.
"Transport Infrastructure Ireland was not aware of this issue and has now raised it with Waterford City and County Council, the road authority for the area. Kiely's Cross is a high-speed rural section of road that is not suitable for a bus stop nor is it an appropriate location for a concentration of services as outlined in your submission. The bus had previously stopped in the village and TII is aware that the Department of Education arranged for a bus to stop on a busy rural section of national road without consulting with the Council and TII. TII is aware that the Council is liaising with the Department of Education in relation to the matter."
"We really should be providing public transport that responds to demand", said Deputy O'Cathasaigh. "We should not presenting some sort of an artificial barrier, and we have to get this sorted before we have an accident, which is really what we have to avoid here. The number one concern has to be about road safety, school transport should be a function of the Department of Transport, not of the Department of Education."
