Over the next 48 hours temperatures in Waterford will not rise much above 2 degrees.
That's according to Michael Kelly of Waterford City Weather.
A status yellow ice warning for the county is due to come into effect at midnight tonight until midday tomorrow as temperatures are set to plummet.
Michael told Déise Today that a band of Wintery showers will move southwards bringing Arctic conditions.
"We're look at, over the next couple of days, some very, very cold nights, severe frost, ice on the roads," he said.
Michael predicts that Waterford will not have snow, but he isn't fully ruling it out.
In terms of snow, the North and Midlands are much more likely to get it.
He did say that we could see temperatures as low as minus five and minus six in some parts of the county - something that is quite extraordinary for this time of year.
"Very unusual for December, we don't normally get these conditions in December. Normally, the severe cold comes in January/February time," Michael said.
As the cold conditions approach, people are being urge to take extra care when driving as there is potential for black ice and freezing rain.
