Gardai in Waterford are appealing to the public to report any suspicious activity in their area to them.

It's after a spate of break-ins across the City and County over the past week.

In one of the first incidents, which came to light in the Waterford News & Star this morning, three masked men broke into the home of a woman in Dominic's Place and threatened her with a crowbar.

It happened shortly after 10 pm on Saturday, September 7th.

There were also break-ins in Ballinamona, Ferrybank, Kilmacthomas, Portlaw and Belevedere Manor

Sergeant Mick Whelan from Tramore Garda Station says these burglars rarely break in if there is someone in the house.

"People are nervous about being in the house at the time when they [the burglars] do arrive.

"Generally there's never anyone in the house, they know exactly what they're at, they know the house is vacant at the time.

"The main thing is if you were in the house ring 999 immediately, we will drop everything and get there as soon as we can.

"The big thing is don't confront them.

Sergeant Whelan added that "the people in the community know their community best".

"They know when there's a suspicious car, they know when there's someone hanging around on the street corner.

"If it's anything suspicious ring us."
