Crews from Waterford Fire Service attended several fires at the former Waterford Crystal showrooms in recent weeks.

Planning permission to convert the facility into offices was received in June with a decision due next month.

Independent Councillor Donal Barry says the site needs to be secured to prevent further vandalism.

He says while he understands that a planning application has been lodged in relation to the future development of the Waterford Crystal
Office Block, in the meantime he is requesting that the council ask the owner to take measures to try and secure the building because “we
are now at a point where fire crews lives are being put in danger, having to enter the buidling on numerous occasions while it is on fire and filled
with smoke and no matter what the plan is or the time frame, we have a duty of care to our fire crews to try and avoid putting them in danger”.
