A new programme to support the victims of domestic abuse has been launched in Waterford.

The ‘Domestic Abuse Outreach Programme’ which has been piloted by Oasis House in the City, and Tusla, aims to improve service provision for those suffering abuse.

Meanwhile a number of new ‘Divisional Protective Services Units’ have been launched at six garda stations across Ireland, including in Waterford.

Waterford Superintendent Chris Delaney says they’ll be dealing with a number of specialised crimes.

“Primarily our team will be investigating sexual crime,” he says, “there’s a very broad spectrum, but we’re very confident that this new unit have the capacity to deliver for us.”
