A Waterford Auctioneer says they receive up to 500 inquiries a week about rental accommodation.
It comes as rent in Waterford has increased to record levels jumping 16% year on year to almost a thousand euro a month.
Regina Mangan is the Managing Director of Liberty Blue Estate Agents
She says “at the moment there are 55 properties advertised on Daft.ie in Waterford City of which 18 are student houses. If you take the student houses out of it
which are for September, that leaves 37 houses in all of Waterford to rent.”
Regina says they receive in the region of 400 to 500 inquiries every week and today they have 11 properties to rent.
She says they can only deal with inquiries online because they can’t service the calls.
For anyone who may not have references, the situation is very grim.
The country has not provided social housing which is a big issue and the market is reliant on private stock.
However she says private landlords are racing out of the market and investors are not buying properties so these houses
are then gone off the rental listing.
