33 asylum seekers in emergency accommodation in Waterford

33 asylum seekers are staying in hotels in Waterford because of the lack of accommodation.
They’re among 304 recently arrived asylum seekers who are in emergency accommodation across the country.
The Department of Justice has confirmed that one of the direct provision centres in Waterford is currently oversubscribed.
Ocean View in Tramore, has 104 people with a contracted capacity 100.
It’s one of five out of the forty centres nationally which have gone over the numbers contracted.
An average of 50 to 60 asylum seekers are arriving in the country each week, according to the Reception and Integration Agency which oversees the provision of direct provision accommodation.
