A running club with a difference is to hold its first public meeting in Waterford next week.

The Waterford Sanctuary Runners aims to bring Irish people and those in Direct Provision together so they can run side-by-side and get to know each other.

The Tramore branch held it’s first run two weeks ago, while Tuesday’s meeting takes place at 7:30pm at the RSC in the city.

There’s over 400 people in Direct Provision in Waterford city and Tramore, and national founder Graham Clifford is hoping to get more Irish people and people with Direct Provision will join over the coming months. “Often when we of Direct Provision we think of the statistics, but we rarely think or have an opportunity to find out about the people behind the doors, behind the gates and so on,” he told WLR.
