Sam McCauley Chemist in Waterford City Centre will close its doors for the last time on Sunday evening.
The Broad Street store will cease trading on Sunday with the loss of 27 jobs.
It was first announced in September of 2018. At the time, CEO Tony Entee said trading conditions in the Waterford retail sector had been exceptionally challenging for some years.
He also highlighted a loss of dispensing business in 2016 and the failure to renegotiate more favourable rent terms.
Customers who have prescriptions on file are being encouraged to collect them tomorrow or Sunday, any remaining scripts will be returned to the patient’s GP.
The closure will have no impact on the Williamstown pharmacy, which will continue to trade and serve customers as normal.
