In Dublin, a baby girl arrived just one second later at The Coombe Maternity Hospital in Dublin.
Amelia O’Brien from Clondalkin was born at four seconds past midnight to parents Leanne Farrell and Alan O’Brien.
At Cork University Maternity Hospital, the first baby born was to Waterford parents.
The boy came into the world at 4 minutes past midnight weighing 3.420 kilos (7lb 8oz).
His parents are Marie Hannigan-O’Brien and Niall O’Brien, of Ardmore, Co Waterford.
The first baby born in University Hospital Waterford was born at 4.30am.
