Waterford will soon have an 8 to 8 cardiac care service.
Up to now there's only been a 9 to 5 service at University Hospital Waterford, with cardiac patients having to be brought to Cork outside of those hours.
However, Independent TD Matt Shanahan has announced on Déise Today this morning that that is set to change from Monday.
"The hospital has got in the last year an additional €30 million. We've recruited nearly all of the 24 whole term equivalents," he said.
For the first time ever, there will be a 24/7 cardiologist on call in the hospital.
A second cath lab will be opening, taking pressure off Whitfield Hostpital.
Despite these huge advances, Matt says we are still "not there and still have to get there."
The hours will be 8 to 8, Monday to Friday.
Paul Reid, the CEO of the Health Service Executive, will be coming to Waterford on Monday to meet the staff.
It will be one of Paul's final meetings before he steps down as CEO.
