Hundreds of thousands of euro are kept in the local economy each year thanks to gift voucher, according to the CEO of Dungarvan and West Waterford Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber is encouraging local companies who are rewarding their staff this year to purchase Chamber Vouchers.

Jenny Beresford told WLR News that businesses and individuals have been fantastic in recent years, with over 100 shops that accept the vouchers:

“For the past two years we’ve sold over 400000 euros worth of vouchers each year, so that’s €400,000 that’s spent in the local economy with member businesses. So, they’re the type of businesses that are the smaller shops or the petrol stations.”

She said the gift vouchers have the effect of being a win-win for everyone.

“It ensures that employment is sustained locally,” she said. “An awful lot of these vouchers might be purchased at Christmas but they’re spent throughout the year so there’s nothing like a kickback going throughout the spring.”
