The number of people on the live register in Waterford has fallen below 7,000 for the first time in more than a decade.

The latest figures from the CSO show 6,965 people were signing on in Waterford City and County at the end of November.

That’s a 3% drop on October and more than 12% lower than November of last year.

The last time the live register was below 7,000 was in December of 2007.

Nationally, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total decreased by 3,100 last month.

That’s a fall of 1.5%. It brings the number of people in receipt of Jobseekers Benefit and Allowance payments to 207, 200.

According to the CSO that represents the lowest seasonally adjusted figure recorded since since May 2008.
