An antique enamel sign has sold at auction in Waterford for more than 3,000 euro above its asking price.

The Fry’s Chocolate sign was one of 800 lots that went under the hammer at R.J. Keighery’s City Auction Rooms yesterday.

It had a reserve of between €100 and €200 however it was bought by a bidder from outside of Ireland for €3,500.

A French cabinet went for double its asking price – selling to a bidder in London for €10,200.

An Arthur Maderson painting of Tallow Horse Fair is going to stay in Ireland, it sold for €4,000.

More than €100,000 worth of items sold yesterday, some selling for as little as €10.

The next auction will take place in October.
