UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre will hold a fundraising event tomorrow at part of Daffodil Day.
Now in its 31st year, Daffodil Day is the Irish Cancer Society’s flagship fundraising event to help fund lifesaving research and crucial services to ensure cancer patients and their families are fully supported.
On the day, UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre will hold a wide range of fundraising events and Karen Fagan, Clinical Nurse Specialist said the day is always popular with patients and staff: "Daffodil Day is a particularly special day at Whitfield Cancer Centre. Not only because we’ll have plenty of fun events taking place for patients and their families to enjoy, but because the support from the Irish Cancer Society has been invaluable to many of our patients."
"The support from the Irish Cancer Society is not just emotional, it’s practical. Many of our patients benefit from ICS services such as one-to-one counselling, the Volunteer Driver service which transports those who have difficulty getting to chemotherapy treatments and Travel2Care, which is a transportation assistance fund to support people who have financial difficulty in meeting some of the costs of travelling to current appointments."
"It is our patients throughout the south east who benefit directly from the Irish Cancer Society and we feel it’s imperative to help raise funds for these services to continue and make a positive impact on our patients’ lives."
The events taking place on Daffodil Day tomorrow at UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre include fundraising raffles, the Daffodil Selfie Frame and live music with local singer/songwriter Liam Merriman. The adjoining Whitfield Clinic will also hold a bake sale in the Atrium Café in the foyer of the hospital.
Since 2006 UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre has been offering the most advanced radiation therapy treatments for prostate, breast, lung, head and neck and colorectal cancers to public and private patients from the southeast region.
