83 new full-time jobs are to be created in the South East at Glanbia's Belview Plant.
The dairy processor is set to invest an estimated €160 million euro in creating a new stand-alone facility to manufacture bulk infant formula.
Commenting on the Belview investment, which she presented to Cabinet for approval this week, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD said; "The Government’s investment, through Enterprise Ireland, to support Glanbia’s development of new activities in Belview reflects our belief in the underlying economic contribution of our indigenous dairy industry and in the company’s development plans. Glanbia has long been one of Ireland’s great home-grown success stories, and as a company, has been characterised by its successful international growth strategy in key markets and a commitment to innovation and excellence. This investment demonstrates a real long-term commitment to farming families and the rural economy. I commend Enterprise Ireland and Glanbia on their collaboration and wish them every success with the project."
Waterford’s Minister of State John Halligan TD has welcomed the news. The proposed expansion programme, Minister Halligan said, will cost an estimated €150 million and will consist of a new stand-alone facility to manufacture the formula. Investments will also be made in related environmental infrastructure, which will ensure the Belview facility meets the highest international quality and environmental standards.
"Glanbia Ireland DAC has been supplying infant formula manufacturers with high quality raw material for many years for export all over the world", Minister Halligan commented.
"This investment will directly result in the creation of 83 new full-time jobs and will unlock significant potential at the Belview operation, enabling the company to increase capacity and output. It will position Glanbia as a market leader in readiness for the expected 50% upsurge in milk volumes by 2020, following the release of milk production quotas from April 2015."
