An industry led group to represent all the tech companies that are based in Waterford and the South East will be launched on Monday.
Crystal Valley Tech represents companies employing over two and a half thousand people.
Director Elaine Fennelly says up to now they haven't had a collective voice. "We put together a book that we're launching on the 26th, and we've got 70 companies, we thought there was maybe about 40 or 50 so we've been blown away to discover how many companies there are around Waterford and the South East. She told WLR News that these are IDA companies, Enterprise Ireland companies, some employing between 200 and 250 people, she says others might have four or five employees but that "they're all high tech jobs that pay very well."
Elaine Fennelly says tech is all about a variety of jobs: "People think software engineers, but it can be integration, technical architects, networks, in the fields of AI, Virtual Reality Internet of Things. She says some of them are very niche companies, some of them are more broad but a collective of skills. She added that Crystal Valley Tech is all about education "working with our local institute of technology to customise courses and to help companies to up-skill and cross-skill their people".
