Dungarvan supermarket development plans submitted to Waterford council
A large-scale supermarket and retail development is planned for a long-vacant site in the centre of Dungarvan, Co Waterford.
The proposal targets lands on Richard A. Walsh Street, part of the former Glanbia site, and includes multiple large retail units, apartments and a café. Developer Shane Houlihan submitted the latest planning application to Waterford City and County Council this week.
Tesco Referenced in Updated Planning Files
Mr Houlihan previously sought permission for a Tesco supermarket at the same location. Waterford City and County Council had approved that original planning but it was subsequently denied by an An Bord Pleanála (An Coimisiún Pleanála) While the new plans do not name a specific operator, the planning documents again reference Tesco. The application notes that Dungarvan remains the only large urban area in Waterford without a Tesco, despite five stores operating across Waterford City and Tramore. The planning file states that residents currently travel to Waterford City or Youghal to access Tesco stores, highlighting what the applicant describes as a gap in national retail provision in west Waterford.Details of the Proposed Development
