A 25-unit housing development has been approved by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for Tramore.
The site, which is currently being levelled at the junction of Knockenduff and Ballycarnane will be built under the Affordable Purchase Scheme.
Planning permission was received for the works last year by the planning department of Waterford Council.
The houses, which are being constructed by R McDonald & Sons will be Waterford's fourth development under the purchase scheme.
Local Fine Gael Senator John Cummins has welcomed the announcement.
"“I am delighted to have worked with R McDonald & Sons, Waterford City & County Council and the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage.
The first two affordable purchase schemes at Deerpark and Elder Walk, Summerfields have proved hugely popular and Brindle Close, Summerfields is now open for applicants.
This twenty-five unit development at Ballycarnane will be Waterford’s fourth, with further schemes earmarked for Dungarvan and Ardmore”.
