24/7 cardiac care at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) will be delivered in a “reasonable timeline” according to An Taoiseach.
He was speaking in the Dáil yesterday (Tuesday) in response to a question from Waterford Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane.
Deputy Cullinane had sought an update on the delivery of the long awaited service and highlighted that Cabinet approval had been granted earlier this year.
“At this point in time, we don’t know when the staff are going to be hired or what the timeline is,” he said.
He asked for an outline of when a full 24/7 cardiac service would be in place for Waterford and the South-East.
In response, the Taoiseach said: “On 24/7 cardiac, that decision has been taken. You’ve asked about the implementation and delivery of it. I think a lot of progress has been made on this – all of the deputies in Waterford worked together. I can see that and appreciate that.”
He added: “We will keep the pressure on to get this done in a reasonable timeline.”
