Vaccinations for Covid-19 will begin to be rolled out in Waterford early next week.

Frontline health workers and nursing homes will be prioritised for the jab.

It had been expected that the vaccine would not reach Waterford until the 18th of January.

But Waterford TD David Cullinane says it will be rolled out locally sooner, he told WLR news it will reach a nursing home next week; "I was speaking to Dr. Colm Henry who is the Chief Clinical Officer with the HSE - he confirmed that it is their intention to start the roll out in Waterford at Tuesday or Wednesday next, that's their plan.

For next week, the only information I have is that the start will be in University Hospital Waterford, and that would be those key frontline workers and also Maypark nursing home I understand will be starting to get their vaccines on the 7th of January", Cullinane said.
