A 16-year-old boy has died in a hit-and-run in Robertstown, County Kildare.

The crash, involving a car and a pedestrian, happened at around half-12 this morning.

The collision, which involved a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred on the R403 in Blackwood near Robertstown, County Kildare at approximately 12.30am.

The vehicle involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene.

The male pedestrian was fatally injured as a result of the collision. His body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Blackwood and Robertstown at the time of the collision and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to contact Gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing.
Update:
Gardaí have arrested a man in his 40s in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision.
The man is currently detained at a Garda station in Co. Kildare under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A cordon is in place as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examine the scene and local traffic diversions remain in place.
