Six communities across Waterford are set to benefit from €174,000 in government funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
The focus of the funding is on measures and interventions that help towns and villages to adapt to social distancing requirements and to provide safe environments that encourage people into towns and villages to shop and socialise.
€3.3 million has been approved for 120 projects countrywide. This is in addition to the €2.8 million that was announced under Round 1 of the scheme in August.
The local projects are in Clashmore, Kilmeaden, Bunmahon, Portlaw, Cappoquin and Ardmore.
Local County Councillor Eamon Quinlan was one those welcoming the funding this week. He said: "Waterford scored big with over €170,000 being awarded to projects ranging from enhancing the promenade in Ardmore, boosting access to small family run businesses in Cappoquin to bicycle shelters and footpaths in Kilmeaden and Portlaw. The fact that Waterford received funding towards twice as many projects as neighbouring counties like Wexford is a testament to the high calibre of entries coming out of our communities right across the county.”
