The speed limit on Irish motorways could be reduced as part of the Green Party's proposals to reduce carbon emissions.
The Business Post reports that during negotiations on the Programme For Government, the Greens looked at cutting the 120 km an hour speed limit for cars and trucks to 110 km.
The move would lengthen travel times but the party believes it would improve fuel consumption for the one third of motorists who drive close to top speed.
It's not included in the Programme for Government however the programme did commit to a review on speed limits.
Green Party leader Eamon Ryan now has responsibility for setting up the review through his role as Minister for Transport.
