A Waterford TD says the arrival of a mobile mortuary at University Hospital Waterford shows how serious coronavirus is.
The temporary storage facility arrived on site on Tuesday.
Sinn Fein's David Cullinane says it's not something you like to see happening.
He told WLR News "Obviously it is not good news to hear that there is a mobile mortuary coming because it shows that more
people are going to die because of this virus, we are seeing the numbers of people dying increase, it's mainly people who are
of an older age and people with underlying conditions, although not exclusively. It shows that this virus is a real danger, it kills people.
He says we need to remain calm.
"We need to make sure we protect vulnerable people as much as possible and I think that is happening. So we can take comfort from the
measures which have been put in place. There will always be demands and a call for more to be done and we certainly have called for
more to be done in certain areas but by and large protections are in place. I would be concerned about clusters in nursing homes, especially in
private nursing homes where there is a shortage of personal protection equipment. I think that is regrettable and that is an issue that needs
urgent attention."
Deputy Cullinane praised the public in Waterford for their role in keeping the number of cases down here.
