Big wins at Waterford's Green Room Awards

The arts across Waterford City and County were celebrated in style last night at Theatre Royal.

The inaugural "Green Room Awards" saw winners across several categories, at a variety night of music and entertainment from local talent.

The categories were primarily adjudicated by Pat McEvoy of The Waterford News and Star who had been publishing his Green Room Awards in the newspaper for many years prior to this.

Out of the 36 awards at the gala event, The Red Iron picked up the award for Outstanding or Theatrical Event as well as Best Professional Play.

Best Amatuer Drama went to The Real McCoy, Cats won Best Musical.

The People's Choice Award was won by the Barrack Street Concert Band and a special one thousand euro bursary was awarded to Rachel Ni Bhraonain, Dance and Theatre Artist.

Des Manahan was awarded a lifetime achievement.

Mary Boland of Theatre Royal says the whole night was a great celebration.

Pat McEvoy of The Waterford News and Star said it was great to see his awards go from page to stage.
