Our very own movie buff John Keane from The Spin Home has compiled his Top 10 Anticipated Movies for 2025.
How many are you looking forward to seeing?
1 - Captain America - Brave New World
My first movie to watch out for in 2025 is Captain America, Brave New World.
Starring: Anthony Mackie, Tim Blake Nelson, Harrison Ford, Carl Lumbly, Danny Ramirez, and Shira Haas
Sam Wilson, the superhero formerly known as The Falcon, took on the role of the Captain in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and now it’s time to see him on the big screen. Tim Blake Nelson, who played the character who becomes the Marvel villain known as The Leader, will reprise the role first teased in The Incredible Hulk and seemingly forgotten about until now. Harrison Ford will also star, stepping into the role of Thaddeus Ross after the death of William Hurt who originally played the role.
2 - My second movie is A Minecraft Movie, to be released in April of 2025 and stars Jason Momoa, Jennifer Coolidge, Jack Black plus many more
If you have ever played Minecraft, well now you can watch the movie. The makers of the movie are giving nothing away but it promises to be true to the game.
3 - The 3rd recommendation involves a new MCU movie starring Stranger Things David Harbour and is called Thunderbolts. It arrives in cinemas in May 2025. It also stars Hannah John-Karmen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, and making another appearance is Harrison Ford
Marvel’s second offering of 2025 pulls from several previous MCU titles, as supervillains-turned-heroes story
4 - Mission: Impossible 8 - Highly anticipated to wrap up the entire franchise in May of 2025
Starring: Tom Cruise, Haley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Ving Rhames.
After Ethan Hunt retrieved both keys at the end of Dead Reckoning, the new film will focus on his mission to find the lost submarine and stopping the Entity, an AI program.
5 - F1
June 2025 sees the release of the real world of Formula One driving in F1.
Starring: Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Shea Whigham
This movie will take us into the fast paced world of F1 racing, so expect fuel adrenaline action from the start to finish.
Starring: Scarlett Johanson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and executively produced by Steven Spielberg
Have you ever wondered how many islands they forget they had populated in Jurassic Park? Jurassic World Rebirth should give us some answers.
7 - Michael (2025)
Starring: Jaafar Jackson, Nia Long, Colman Domingo, Laura Harrier, Larenz Tate
Take out your red leather jackets and sequin-covered gloves and prepare to moonwalk into theatres and witness Antoine Fuqua’s Michael. Detailing the life of the man, myth, and music legend, this biopic invites viewers to explore the personal woes that came along with the global success of the superstar.
8 - TRON: Ares (2025)
October 10th sees the release of my next recommendation, Tron: Ares
Starring: Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Cameron Monaghan, Evan Peters, Gillian Anderson, Jodie-Turner-Smith, Jeff Bridges
In this new instalment of the iconic sci-fi series, Ares (Jared Leto) plays a highly sophisticated A.I. computer program that crosses over into the human world on a dangerous mission.
9 – The highly anticipated sequel to this year's smash hit Wicked, Wicked Part 2 is set for a November 21st release in 2025.
Starring: Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Keala Settle
If this is anything like the book, prepare for a darker side to oz, filled with more great songs and extended from the stage show scenes that enhance this wonderful clever prequel to the classic, The Wizard of Oz.
10 - My final movie is the much anticipated Dirty Dancing 2.
After almost 40 years, Dirty Dancing is finally getting a sequel. Although details about the plot, title, and release date are unknown, we know Jennifer Grey is returning as Baby Houseman. Producers and directors are working to include as many original cast members as possible. The film honours the late Patrick Swayze, not by recasting his character Johnny, but by incorporating him into the story.
