The new Garda uniform has been unveiled, with the force opting for a more casual look.
In a statement, An Gardai Síochána said the outfits will be delivered to over 13,000 uniformed members of Garda, Sergeant and Inspector rank across every Garda Region, Division, District and in excess of 560 Garda stations nationwide.
The new uniform is described as "contemporary, and incorporates elements such as durability, protection and functionality."
A key finding of the internal Garda Cultural Audit 2018 was a desire from front-line Gardaí for a new, practical operational uniform. Over 6,500 members of An Garda Síochána had their say in the audit.
It's expected a ‘go-live’ date for March will be announced, when the uniform will be adopted for daily duties.
2022 marks 100 years since the foundation of the Gardai, and this is only the third time in that century that a formal upgrade of the Garda uniform has taken place.
Features of the new Garda uniform
• Two tone Soft Shell Jacket
• Two Tone Waterproof Jacket
