The saga of the Lotto Jackpot continues, as yet again the €19 million draw was rolled over, making it more than six months without a winner.
The jackpot hasn't been won since June 9th, and has rolled over an astonishing 54 times since.
Speaking to the Irish Times, Professor Brien Nolan of Dublin City University described the streak of rollovers as "highly improbable," adding that it represented the same chances as picking up a deck of cards and dealing a full house, or four of a kind.
He also pointed out that the improbability is lessened somewhat by the fact that Lotto has been running in Ireland for 33 years and a rollover of this duration has not happened before.
The previous Lotto Jackpot rollover record is 22 weeks. The current 27 week run has raised a few eyebrows with TD Bernard Durkan recently describing the draw as "unwinnable."
Two players narrowly missed out in Dublin and Donegal over the weekend, matching five numbers and the bonus each.
Meanwhile a Waterford player got lucky on Friday winning €500,000 in a Daily Million Plus draw. More here.
