Councillor Jason Murphy

Why should you vote for Jason?

My name is Jason Murphy and I’m the Fianna Fail Councillor for Waterford City South. I live in Larchville in Waterford City and am the father of two teenage children, my daughter Kerenza and son Brannoc. I’m a movies and history buff and as well as keeping an eye on the local hurlers and footballers, I’m a West Ham fan for my sins.

Since my election I have fought for and prioritised the issues that matter to ordinary people –  housing, health, sustainable public transport and community supports. I have put the needs of the people above party politics and as a full-time public representative, I dedicate all my time to the needs of the people of Waterford. I am a strong believer in action rather than soundbites and will stand before the electorate in May to be judged on my record of delivery over the last five years. I have a battered mobile phone that can testify to the work its been doing during my public tenure! I hope that the people of ward south will again give me the opportunity to be their voice in council for the next five years.

Councillor Breda Brennan

Why should you vote for Breda?

Breda is originally from Annestown in County Waterford. She lives in St. Herblain Park, Kilcohan, with her husband Ken and grown up son, Luke. Her daughter Samantha, lives nearby with her two children.

Breda worked in Bausch and Lomb for ten years and then as a childcare worker in a local community based childcare centre. She was elected in 2014 when she stood for the first time. Breda has worked hard as a Sinn Féin councillor for Waterford City South since then.

For over 16 years, Breda has been a committee member on her local residents’ association and is currently serving her 3rd term as secretary. Breda is also treasurer of The Friends of St. John’s River Walk Group. She is also an avid Waterford F.C. supporter and secured a wheelchair shelter, along with other agencies, in the Waterford Regional Sports Centre recently.

Breda sits on the Joint Policing Committee, the Housing, Community, Culture, Recreation & Sport Strategic Policy Committee and the City Centre Management Group of the Council, further re-enforcing her work within the community. She knows and understands the issues facing the ordinary man and woman as she lives with and experiences the same issues every day.

Breda is standing in the 2019 Local Election on May 24th and is asking the voters of Waterford City South, to give her their No. 1 vote, to ensure she is re-elected and able to represent them again.

As you decide who you will vote for to represent you and your community on Waterford City and County Council as your representative for Waterford City South, I ask you for the consideration and privilege of your Number 1 vote. For the past eight years, I have been employed as an Information Officer with Waterford Citizens Information Centre. During this time, I have represented people at Social Welfare Appeals and have advocated for people in securing their rights and entitlements with many local and national Government Departments.

Susan Gallagher

Why should you vote for Susan?

I am the Green Party candidate for Waterford City South in the local elections. I’m a civil engineer
with a particular interest in water conservation and flooding. Originally from Dublin, I moved to
Waterford in 2008 to take up a job as an engineering lecturer in Waterford Institute of Technology,
and I love living in Waterford. I’m running for election because I’m very concerned about climate
change, loss of biodiversity and plastic pollution. I strongly believe we need more voices on our
council championing these issues.

As an engineer, I am very aware of the impact that the built environment has on our lives. I think we
have designed our cities around driving, and not everyone can afford to own a car. I’d like to make it
easier to get around Waterford by bus, bike, on foot and in a wheelchair.

I’d also like to see more greenery in the city. Several beautiful trees have recently been cut down,
much to the disappointment of many. I’d like to see more trees that are suitable for an urban
context, pollinator-friendly flowers, and raingardens full of plants that can soak up rainwater and
prevent flooding, while providing pleasant living spaces for all of us.

Councillor John Hearne

Councillor Sean Reinhardt

Why should you vote for Seán?

Serving the people of Waterford City South over the last number of years has been an
absolute privilege. I love what I do, and I hope to be lucky enough to continue doing it.
At present, the people have made it clear to me that the most pressing of issues for them
are housing and healthcare. Waiting lists in both sectors are increasing rapidly. I aim to
continue to build on the progressive changes to policies which I have proposed during my
time as your Independent Councillor, in the hope of assisting those in need.
Waterford City South is built on the foundations of the various, inclusive and diverse
communities within it, and it is within these communities where I have seen the most
resilient of groups create an unbreakable community spirit as they strive to constantly move
forward. Standing side by side I aim to take the real experiences of the people and be your
voice in front of the local authority.
My values I hold dear, and the most important value of mine is that I will always do my absolute best
for the people of Waterford City South.
Let’s get to a better place, together.
Your Independent Councillor.
Seán Reinhardt

Andrew Power

Why should you vote for Andrew?

My name is Andrew Power and I live and work in Waterford City. I have a young family with two kids under the age of five. I have decided, with the support of my family and friends to stand for election as an Independent Candidate to represent Waterford City South. I am actively involved in the community and I enjoy working with people.
Waterford City has been left wanting on many fronts by this government and others, broken promises followed by more broken promises. With regard to healthcare, 24/7 Cardiology Services at UHW more distant than ever along with endless waiting lists for life-enhancing and in some cases life-saving medical procedures. With regard to housing, the government are building homes in dribs and drabs when we have social housing waiting lists in the thousands. The lack of action by the government on these serious issues shows absolutely no regard for the people of Waterford.
If elected I will be fighting hard with a strong independent voice on these issues and many others. Thank you for taking the time to read my information and I am asking for your No.1 vote or next highest preference vote on the 24th of May.

 Vivienne Burns

Why should you vote for Vivienne?

My name is Vivienne Burns and I am running as an Independent candidate in the Waterford City South ward. For the last 7 years I have been Secretary of Share Waterford,a group that provides support to families facing eviction from the banks. Housing is a huge issue . Our homeless figures stand at 10,300 yet we live in a time where banks are making huge profits, paying little tax and are selling mortgages even those that are up to date in repayments to vulture funds at knock down rates. This is something I will be campaigning to change.
Children on the autistic spectrum and children with additional needs.
This issue is close to my own heart. Early intervention is crucial, yet children are waiting for between 2-5 years to access assessments, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy etc. Recently the Southeast was allocated 700000 euro for additional posts to speed up waiting times. Waterford did not recieve one additional s&l or occupational therapist. This is something I will be actively campaigning to change.
24/7 Cardiac care.

Its an absolute disgrace that the people of the Southeast do not have access to this vital service. Lives have been lost . We the people of the Southeast should be treated with dignity. The fact that other parts of the country have access to 24/7 cardiac care and we do not is unbelievable. We need strong candidates not bound by party politics to ensure this changes.

I respectfully ask the people of Waterford to vote no1 for me Vivienne Burns on the 24th of May. I will be a strong voice for Waterford.

Ronan Cleary

Why should you vote for Ronan?

My Name is Dr Ronan Cleary and I am GP registrar in the Rowe Creavin Practice in the
Waterford Health Park.
I have decided to stand for election as there is a new party established, which I truly believe
has the interests of the Irish people as it`s first priority – Its name is Aontu.
I have not stood for any political election before, because there was no party which I could
say hand on heart, 100%, that it represented me and my values.
It is only a few months old and was set up as it recognises the current political system in
Ireland is broken and needs fixing. My aim of running in this election is to inject new blood
and debate into Irish Politics at both a local and national level and break the `groupthink` that
is strangling political discussion in this country.
If given the opportunity I would Prioritise attempting to ensure UHW finally gets 24/7
Cardiac Cover, try to assist in WIT getting University status and endeavour to entice an
established airline to Waterford Airport.
I would also however, work on bread and butter issues for the Electoral ward including more
affordable housing, quality pavements and lighting and tackling fly tipping.
Please consider Voting Aontu if you believe Irish Politics needs new blood and ideas.
Thank you
